Hilltoppers of the
Week:
Week of April 19, 2010

Jeff Mrochinski - Head Coach JV Gold

Jeff was the main proponent in making the MUHS tennis
program into a no-cut program.  With his efforts over the last
two seasons with the JV Gold team, the program has now
increased to a record 95 students!  Congratulations Jeff on
building student interest in the great sport of tennis!
Week of April 26, 2010

Damon Niquet - Varsity

Niquet won his three matches over the weekend at the
Brookfield East Invite facing Neenah, Eau Claire Memorial
and Brookfield Central.  Niquet only dropped  two games in
the process to help the Hilltoppers win the invite.

Hector "Manny" Lopez - JV Gold

This senior showed great poise and leadership last week at
Germantown, coming back from a 2-5 deficit to win 8-6 at #4
singles, clinching Gold's team victory.
Week of May 3, 2010

Tim Noack - Varsity

Tim played four matches at #1 singles for Marquette this past
week, winning all of his matches.  Tim had huge wins over
Michael Treis of Brookfield Central (7-6(5), 6-4) and Sam
Walker of the University School (2-6, 6-2, 7-5) improving his
season record to 14-0.  As one of the Varsity captains, Tim has
continually shown great leadership and focus this season.
Matt Lenahan - JV Gold

Matt continues to get stronger as the season progresses due to
hard work and a great attitude.  He brought his season singles
record to 9-0 last week with wins at #1 singles versus Waukesha
South and  Brookfield East, and #2 singles versus Brookfield
Central and DePere.  This week he defeated Dominican's
Varsity #1 Singles in a scrimmage, 6-0.  Matt's leadership on
and off the court have been an inspiration to our team!
Week of May 10, 2010

Matt Lynch - Varsity

Matt had a solid week for Marquette with straight-set wins at #1
singles (against Madison West), #2 singles (Racine Prairie,
Nicolet), and #3 singles against Homestead where he came back
from a 2-5 deficit in the second set to win 6-1, 7-6(1).  As a
freshman, Matt shows great heart on the court for Marquette.
Week of May 17, 2010

Ethan Niquet and Alex Sykes - Varsity

The #1 doubles duo of Ethan Niquet and Alex Sykes had their
second win over Homestead's #1 team over the weekend - and a
big win at that.  Alex and Ethan overcame a first set deficit to
comeback with two solid sets to help the Hilltoppers finish in first
place at the Manitowoc Invite.
Week of June 1, 2010

Jed Sekaran and Connor Muth - Varsity

Jed and Connor avenged a regular season loss  against the
previously undefeated #3 doubles team of Jacob Levey and
Quinn Ellsworth of Nicolet with a solid 6-3, 6-4 win at
Sectionals.  This win brought their overall record to 12-2,
helping them qualify for the 2010 Individual State Tournament
in Madison.
Week of June 7, 2010

Alex Sykes & Ethan Niquet - Varsity

Alex and Ethan came into the 2010 WIAA Individual State
Tournament as the #2 seed and finished as the Champions.

Homestead, and Bay Port en route to the State Title.
Congratulations Alex and Ethan for all your hard work, good
luck at TEAM STATE!
Week of June 14, 2010

CJ Armbrust and Jack Porritt - Varsity

CJ and Jack were a key position for MUHS all year.  Jack
moved up from #3 doubles last year to team with CJ and CJ did
an excellent job stepping up as a freshman at #2 doubles.   CJ
and Jack finished the year with the best record of MUHS'
doubles tandems at 33-2.  The doubles lineup was definitely a
strength this year, but having CJ and Jack at #2 was something
that no team in the state could compete with.
Weef of July 26, 2010

Jack Porritt & Alex Smith

Teammates Porritt and Smith faced each other in finals of the
Milwaukee Country Club Junior Open in the Boys 18s division.
Smith beat Rishi Karri in the semifinals in straight sets.  Porritt

Porritt won in the final over Smith in the third set after two close
tiebreaks.

Varsity: Troy Holland
Troy Holland competed extremely well this last week going 4-1 in his matches,
mostly at #1 Doubles.  Troy and CJ Armbrust pulled out 3-set victories over two very
solid doubles teams from Homestead and Neenah with a 2-set victory over Racine
Prairie in between.  Troy then switched partners on Saturday and did not miss a beat
with Mike Ebsen with a win at #2 Doubles over Brookfield East.  Troy and Mike then
moved up to compete against a very good #1 Doubles team from Eau Claire
Memorial.  Even though they came up just short in this match, Troy and Mike were
very positive about this opportunity and will be ready for this level of competition
next time.

JV Gold: David Quick
David braved the weather on Monday battling hard-fought doubles matches and
won convincingly on Tuesday in singles by quickly adjusting his game to
take-advantage of his opponent's weaknesses.  Finally, on Saturday, though
David fell in the first round to a consistent and strong Arrowhead player, he was
able to bounce back to win against another tall player from Oconomowoc by
seeing the weaknesses in the opponent's back-hand, moving him around the
court with good angles, and having a strong, consistent, weapon-like serve.
Great enthusiasm to play tennis, commitment to the team, and skill improvement
through this week David!
Week of April 31, 2012
Varsity: Alex Rokosz
Alex has stepped into a singles role for our team extremely well.  Competing at
#3 Singles for the most part, Alex’s record so far this season is 10-1 with his
sole loss coming at New Trier where he was very close to being in that match.
Alex also represented our school at #1 Singles against Menomonee Falls where
he withstood tough conditions to win 6-3, 7-5 against a solid singles player.
Along the way, Alex has represented himself and his Team extremely well by
staying in control of his emotions and giving 100% effort on every point.  He has
defeated several very good upperclassmen over the last few weeks including
Mike Lukas from University School (6-4, 6-1), Henry Bachman from Whitefish Bay
(6-1, 6-1), Peter Kopanon from Arrowhead (7-5, 6-2), Adam Carlos from
Menomonee Falls (6-3, 7-5), and Brookfield Central’s Matt Michael (6-0, 6-0) all in
the last week.
JV Gold: TIM WITKOWIAK
Tim continues to remain undefeated both in singles and doubles competition this
season.  Tim only dropped two games this whole week as he quietly but
confidently controls the points, works well with his doubles partners, and ever
strives to improve his shots.  His love for the game is evident as he is present at
every practice and game and is willing to play wherever needed.
Week of May 7, 2012
Varsity: MATT LYNCH
Matt is consistent and reliable in the Varsity singles lineup.  He had a strong win
over Danny Coran at the Nicolet Invite and will have a big week with Brookfield East
and the upcoming Manitowoc Invite where he will have a chance to face Coran
again.  Congratulations Matt!

JV Gold: JOSEPH FRANKE
Joseph is a freshman who pours himself into his matches, is always striving to
improve his shots, and has a strong drive to always "WANT" each point.  He started
this season at the Arrowhead Quadrangular, winning big, and, at the end of the day,
telling us that he had never played a full match before.  Through these past few
weeks, his shots, game, and drive have continued to develop.  Joseph's form for his
ground strokes and serve are text-book.  He battled hard against Waukesha South
this week, coming up just short, but he grew immensely, trying to find the best
strategy to overcome his opponent.  There are great expectations for how Joseph
will continue to contribute to the MUHS Tennis Team as a whole through his years
here.
Week of May 14, 2012
Varsity: DAVID SINENSE
David Sinense for a number of big wins for us coming off an ankle injury that
kept him off the court for the first few weeks of the season.  David defeated
Jimmy Englehart of Brookfield East (6-1, 7-5), Mike Olson of Manitowoc  (6-2,
6-1), and Will Kammerait of Homestead (6-2, 4-6, 10-7).  David stayed within
himself on court and always played with enthusiasm.  Congratulations David!

JV Gold: BEN ZELLMER
As a sophomore and in his second year on the JV Gold team, Ben is a strong
player with consistent shots and beautiful volleys.  He is also a smart player,
able to read the opponent for strengths and weaknesses and place the ball so
as to win the point.  He most often partnered with John Berens to make a
powerful duo.  I love watching these two play because they are always having
fun, supporting and encouraging each other, and always trying their hardest.
Even though matches did not always go their way, they bounced back from
tough and most often close losses to grow stronger as players, closer as
friends, and with more passionate WANT to win.  Congratulations.
Week of May 21, 2012
Varsity: Greg Raster and Austin Budiono
Greg and Austin have showed great improvement this season and have come
together nicely to represent MUHS at #2 Doubles.  They demonstrate great
teamwork and communication on the court while complimenting each other's
strengths.  Greg and Austin had a successful GMC Tournament and continued their
success through the weekend defeating Madison West, Waukesha South and Eau
Claire Memorial.  Congratulations Greg and Austin!
Week of May 28, 2012
Varsity: Corey Hopp, Ryan Westley, Chas
Muth and Kyran Young
Corey Hopp, Ryan Westley, Chas Muth and Kyran Young  have prepared their
teammates all season for the post-season as well as cheering their Teammates on at
Sectionals on Thursday.  They are a huge part of the success of the Varsity Team.
And for this, Corey Hopp, Ryan Westley, Chas Muth and Kyran Young are all the
Hilltoppers of the Week!
Week of June 4, 2012

DePere), Nick Allen (Green Bay Southwest), and Felix Corwin (Brookfield East) en
route to his second straight Division I Singles Title.  Congratulations Damon!
Week of June 11, 2012
Varsity: CJ Armbrust and Connor Muth
CJ and Connor went 3-0 at the Team State Tournament facing the top #1 doubles
teams in the State and clinched the 4th victory in the finals against Homestead.
They played smart the week prior to take the Doubles Title at the Individual State
Tournament.  Congratulations CJ and Connor on being named the Hilltoppers of
the Week!
Week of April 22, 2013
Varsity: Robby Balistreri
Robby competed over the weekend with high energy and contributed three great
doubles wins for Marquette at the Brookfield East Invitational.  Way to go Robby!

JV Gold: Joey McBride
While basking in the brisk sunshine Marquette Gold swept the Arrowhead Quad
defeating Oconomowoc 7-1, Arrowhead 5-3 and Brookfield Central 5-3.  The
victory over Brookfield Central was secured by Marquette Gold Hill Topper of the
Week Joey McBride in a 9-8 pro set that lasted more than 90 minutes.  These
boys know how to compete.

Week of April 29, 2013
Varsity: Alex Rokosz
Alex had a strong performance over the weekend at the DePere Invitational.  His
biggest match was against Stevens Point’s #1 singles player, Bradly
Luetshwager who participated in the WIAA State Tournament last year in the
singles draw.  Alex had an incredible comeback at #1 singles to defeat
Luetswager 1-6, 6-4, 10-3.  Alex played the last two sets with patience and skill
to close out the match.
Week of May 6, 2013
Varsity: Chas Muth
Congratulations to Chas Muth for his strong play over the week going 6-0 over
his competition in both the doubles and singles lineup.  Great job Chas!

VarsityGold: Brennan McGinn
Brennan fought off countless match points in an amazing comeback to defeat his
opponent from Menomonee Falls  9-7 at 1 Singles.  Not only did this seal the deal
for MUHS I but he helped his brother team remain in 2nd with this hard fought
victory.  Congratulations to Brennan!
Week of May 13, 2013
Varsity: Kyran Young
Kyran moved over to the singles lineup this year with his solid groundstrokes and
potent net game.  Kyran played some great matches this week, including his win at
#1 singles over Brookfield Central.
Week of May 20, 2013
Varsity: David Sinense, Mike Ebsen and Matt
Lynch
These three Varsity members played a key role in the GMC Title going to
Marquette this week with solid wins at #2 Doubles and #2 Singles.
Week of May 27, 2013
Varsity: Austin Budiono and Greg Raster
Greg & Austin had three great wins and some incredible teamwork at our #2
doubles spot this past week.  Austin and Greg play with fire and intensity and
are the epitome of a team when they are on the court together.  They also
defeated alumni Dave Kennedy and Jordan Hughes in practice on Tuesday.  We
have been very fortunate to have many of our former players helping our current
Team as we prepare for State.
Week of June 3, 2013
Varsity: CJ Armbrust & Jed Sekaran
CJ and Jed were the #1 Doubles seed in the tournament and stayed true to their
seed earning the 2013 WIAA Doubles Championship.  They played with passion
and determination the entire weekend, picking each other up on the court and
showing great sportsmanship. Congratulations CJ and Jed!
Week of June 10, 2013
Varsity: Damon Niquet
Damon Niquet went 3-0 at the Team State Tournament facing the Individual
Singles Champion in the semi-final and earning his first victory of the season over
Felix Corwin.  Damon played smart and dictated the semi-final match to avenge his
loss the week prior.  Congratulations Damon on being named the Hilltopper of the
Week!
